Boone Service League to meet Feb. 5
The Boone Service League’s next monthly meeting is scheduled
for Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Deerfield United Methodist Church in Boone.
Light refreshments and
fellowship begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting at 7 p.m. Child care is available.
Bring new packages of diapers and baby wipes for donation to the clients of OASIS (Opposing Abuse
with Service, Information and Service). The league typically meets the first Tuesday of every
month.
Established in 1957 as an auxiliary women’s organization to the Boone Jaycees, the
Boone Service League is open to women 21 and older living in the High Country area, including
Watauga, Ashe and Avery counties.
In 2011-12, the Boone Service League awarded $7,000 in
grants to eight High Country organizations and presented two $1,000 scholarships to high school
seniors. Boone Service League members also hold food and supplies drives, volunteer for the Meals on
Wheels program and provide financial assistance for families in crisis.
Save the date for the
league’s annual spring fundraiser, Motown in the Mountains, at Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock on
Friday, April 12. The evening includes musical entertainment by Soul Benefactor, hors d’oeuvres and
a live auction.
Businesses interested in sponsoring the event should contact a member of the
Boone Service League or call (828) 264-9955.
The Boone Service League openly seeks new
members who are interested in providing much-needed service while meeting new friends. For more
