Summer has arrived, and it’s time to let the good times
roll.
To help local ladies get into gear, Boone Bike & Touring will host a women’s bike
demo Saturday at Brookshire Park in Boone.
Mel Bowen, the Trek Women’s Cycling Experience
East Coast demo specialist, will bring a trailer full of women-specific mountain and road bikes in
various sizes for the public to test.
“They don’t really go to a ton of places, so we’re kind
of lucky to have her coming,” said Sarah Brown, owner of Boone Bike.
This will be the third
women’s bike demo hosted by Boone Bike, she said.
Novice riders can get help and ask
questions about choosing their first bike, while more experienced riders can examine some of Trek’s
nicest models.
“The demo is good because a lot of times people are intimidated to come into
a bike shop and ask a lot of questions,” she said.
The bicycles will not be for sale at the
demo, so there’s no obligation to buy, she added. But anyone who is looking to make a purchase
soon will receive a coupon at Saturday’s demo for 10 percent off any bicycle at Boone Bike, valid
for one week.
On Saturday, attendees can do an out-and-back route on Brookshire Road, or
more skilled mountain bike riders may even have time to ride to Rocky Knob and test the bike on
the trails, Brown said.
Anyone who attends the demo should bring her ID and a helmet if she
has one, although loaner helmets will be available to those who don’t.
The free event will
be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Brookshire Park just off U.S. 421 in Boone.
