Bluegrass with a Side of Chili
The Watauga High School Band Boosters understand how much the
county enjoys good, soul-enriching food and music.
To help raise money for the high school’s entire band program, which includes the marching, symphonic and concert legs of the program, the boosters are holding a Bluegrass Benefit Concert and Chili Dinner on Friday, March 14, at the Watauga High School Auditorium and Commons.
The chili dinner will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The concert will follow. Both events are $5 each. Children younger than 6 years of age will be admitted for free.
Proceeds from the concert will go toward the purchase and repair of instruments and for concerts, according to boosters’ publicity chair Angie Caraway.
The concert will feature bands Surefire and Carolina Crossing.
“I was aware of the Red, White and Bluegrass Jams, where a bunch of local bluegrass bands come together in Foscoe,” Caraway said. “I had talked to the founder, and he had suggested those guys. So, I went to Appalachian Music, got some phone numbers, and those were the names given. I asked if they would be interested in donating music in the cause of keeping music in Watauga County schools, and they were very glad to assist.”
The chili for this year’s event is being donated by Chili’s, Red Onion Café, Pepper’s, Wendy’s, Waffle House and several other establishments.
For more information, call Caraway at (828) 789-9575. Tickets can be purchased at the door the day of the event.
Watauga High School is located at 300 Go Pioneers Drive in Boone.
