Billy Scott & The Party Prophets play Banner Elk Aug. 12
Billy Scott & The Party Prophets, formerly known as Billy Scott & The Prophets, brings the party to Banner Elk on Thursday, Aug. 12, for the ninth concert in the 2010 Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce Concert Series.
The veteran music group is well known for such beach music classics as "I Got The Fever," "California," "Beach Trip," "Roll Around Rockin," "Rockin' Good Way," and the smash No. 1 hit song for 21 weeks on the Rhythm 'n Beach Top 40 Chart, "My Kind Of Girl," to name a few.
Billy Scott & The Party Prophets has been a main staple on the southeastern private party, festival, concert, corporate functions, night club and wedding circuit for more than 30 years. In 1997, they opened for The Temptations at Blockbuster Pavilion in Charlotte to a sold out crowd of 17,000. This award winning six-piece dance and show group plays a wide variety of music, including beach, blues, Motown, retro, funk and oldies.
Billy Scott has been inducted in the Beach Music Hall of Fame, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, and has a room full of Cammy awards to his credit. Scott was awarded with three more Cammy awards on Nov. 11, 2001 at the Alabama Theater in Myrtle Beach, S.C. His hit song, "My Kind Of Girl," won Song of the Year and Ballad of the Year, and Scott also took home the 2001 Male Vocalist of the Year award.
Ready to Party, nominated for three 1999 Cammy awards, landed at No. 6 on the Rhythm 'n Beach Top 20 CDs Chart for 1999. In 2001, Billy Scott & The Prophets released a new CD, titled Looking Back, a retrospect of their best songs from 1968 through 2000.
In the spring of 2003, Scott received the Artist of the Decade Award from the Rhythm 'n Beach Top 40 Award Show. His song, "My Kind Of Girl," was also named the No. 2 Song of the Decade, second only to The Bee Gees.
In September 2003, Billy Scott & The Prophets released a new CD consisting of all original music composed by the group and a few outside writers. The CD, titled Singers & Songwriters, features lead vocals on songs by all the band members, including Billy Scott's duet with the legendary Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Bill Pinkney of The Original Drifters.
In January 2004, the group released its first live DVD, titled Billy Scott & The Prophets 'A Soul Performance' Live at the Newberry Opera House. The DVD is a two-disc set packed with two hours of the favorite songs by Billy Scott & The Prophets and also includes extra backstage footage.
