Bella’s serves fundraiser for Avery Habitat
Once per quarter, Habitat for Humanity volunteers serve
breakfast to the public at Bella’s Restaurant in Banner Elk.
Bella’s has been turning over its facility to Habitat volunteers since 2009 and, to date, has raised more than $10,000 in support of Avery County Habitat for Humanity’s housing ministry. Breakfast food items are donated by Food Lion and Bella’s, both of Banner Elk, and Goodnight Brothers of Boone.
Avery Habitat only asks for donations at the event, and all proceeds go directly toward the local organization’s building efforts. Currently, ACHFH is building its 40th and 41st homes, both of which will go to hard-working local families, a spokesperson said.
Habitat homes are not given away but are purchased by partner families at a zero-interest mortgage rate. In addition to purchasing the home, partner families log hundreds of “sweat-equity” hours, as well as complete homeowner education classes in consumer credit counseling, household budgeting, neighborhood relations, home maintenance and mortgage documents.
Breakfast at Bella’s takes place Saturday, Jan. 18, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Bella’s is located in the Food Lion shopping center at 3585 Tynecastle Highway in Banner Elk.
