Sunday, Nov. 7, will see the second annual Banner Elk Downtown GetDown in the Banner Elk Town Park. Lynne Lear, one of the event's main organizers, has announced that this year's event will again boast five bands, a silent auction, kids' entertainment and barbecue provided by some of the top chefs in the High Country.

The bands playing that day will be The p.L.p., Whip Daddies, Upright and Breathin', Big Daddy Love and Melissa Reaves.

Last year, the GetDown raised more than $11,000 for a Banner Elk resident who was in need of a kidney transplant.

"This year we will be donating 100 percent of the proceeds to the family of Will Redman, who died tragically on Oct. 9 at the age of 29," Lear said. "He left behind his lovely wife and his two beautiful and very young sons, for whom a trust fund has been started. Will grew up here, and we are hoping that we can show his wife and boys just how much his hometown loved him."

To volunteer to help with this year's event or make a donation, call Lynne Lear at (423) 794-8825. Direct donations can also be made online at willredmanmemorial.weebly.com.
