Back in the Swing of Things
Just because the summer is winding down, that’s no reason to
stop the show. That’s the philosophy at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock. The center
recently released a full schedule of events for September. The line-up includes musical acts,
comedy, theatrical and dance performances.
Created by “Stomp” innovator Jeremy Price, Plastic Musik is a unique performance that utilizes traditional percussion techniques, along with all-plastic and recycled instruments to produce familiar melodies. Everything from classical favorites to Motown tunes is presented in a breathtaking and new way. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
Christian musician Guy Penrod is in every sense of the word a man cut from the cloth of rugged individualism. After spending 14 years as a member of Bill Gaither’s celebrated “Vocal Band,” Penrod has his sights set on new horizons as a solo artist. The show begins at 2 p.m.
Sally Mayes: Broadway My Way
Acclaimed for roles in Broadway musicals, such as “Bye Bye Birdie” and “The Producers,” Sally Mayes brings her one-woman show to the Hayes Center stage this month. For two hours, Mayes sings and dances her way through the highlights of her Broadway career. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s popular touring ensemble, the Tarradiddle Players, stages this funny, fast-paced spin on one of the world’s most beloved fairy tales. The show starts at 2 p.m.
Dancing with the High Country Stars
The 2011 class of the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Challenge presents the first annual “Dancing with the High Country Stars,” an evening to benefit four local charitable organizations. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
