BSL seeks new members, meets Nov. 13
The Boone Service League’s next monthly meeting is Tuesday,
Nov. 13, at Deerfield United Methodist Church in Boone.
The league typically meets the first
Tuesday of every month, but November’s meeting was delayed because of the election.
Light
refreshments and fellowship begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting at 7 p.m. Child care
is available.
Established in 1957 as an auxiliary women’s organization to the Boone Jaycees,
the Boone Service League is open to women ages 21 and older living in the High Country area,
including Watauga, Ashe and Avery counties.
In 2011-12, the Boone Service League awarded
$7,000 in grants to eight High Country organizations and presented two $1,000 scholarships to high
school seniors.
Boone Service League members also held food and supplies drives, volunteered
for the Meals on Wheels program and provided financial assistance for families in crisis.
The
organization sponsors holiday pictures by photographer Emily Angle Nov. 11 to 13 at a local
Christmas tree farm. Packages are $60 and include one 8-by-10, two 5-by-7s and eight wallet-sized
prints.
Email (rebeccawriddle@gmail.com) with your name, phone number and the hour and day on
which you would like to schedule an appointment. You will be emailed back with a time slot as close
to your preference as possible. Due to the limited number of spaces available, there will be a
24-hour cancellation policy.
Also, mark your calendars for the Dec. 1 Boone Service League
Holiday Market, held from 8 to 11 a.m. in conjunction with the Watauga Education Foundation’s annual
Flapjack Flip at Watauga High School.
The Boone Service League openly seeks new members who
are interested in providing service while meeting new friends. For more information about the Boone
