BSL meets Dec. 4
The Boone Service League’s next monthly meeting is Tuesday,
Dec. 4, at the home of Stephanie Allen in Boone. Email (sallen628@hotmail.com) for directions.
The league meets the
first Tuesday of every month.
Light refreshments and fellowship begin at 6:30 p.m., followed
by a business meeting at 7 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring an appetizer. Attendees are also
asked to bring a new unwrapped toy for the Santa’s Toy Box charity and one or two children’s books
for the Children’s Council.
Established in 1957 as an auxiliary women’s organization to the
Boone Jaycees, the Boone Service League is open to women ages 21 and older living in the High
Country area, including Watauga, Ashe and Avery counties.
In 2011-12, the Boone Service
League awarded $7,000 in grants to eight High Country organizations and presented two $1,000
scholarships to high school seniors. Boone Service League members also hold food and supplies
drives, volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program and provide financial assistance for families in
crisis.
Community members can support the league’s efforts by attending the Dec. 1 Holiday
Market, held from 8 to 11 a.m. in conjunction with the Watauga Education Foundation’s annual
Flapjack Flip at Watauga High School.
The Boone Service League openly seeks new members who
are interested in providing much-needed service, while meeting new friends. For more information
