BRAHM and Beyond
Well-traveled explorer and children’s author Pam Flowers will cap off her visit to Blowing Rock on Friday, April 20, with an appearance at BRAHM at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, although donations are appreciated.
In 1994, Flowers became the first solo woman to complete the 2,500-mile trans-Arctic “Fifth Thule Expedition” on an eight-dog sled.
Her most recent book, “Ellie’s Long Adventure,” chronicles her 2,174-mile, eight-month hike across the entire length of the Appalachian Trail, which runs from Maine to Georgia. She was joined in her endeavor by her rescue dog and constant companion, Ellie (a.k.a. Eleanor Roosevelt).
According to event organizers, the evening’s presentation will be of interest to adventurers and animal lovers of all ages, as Flowers will entertain guests with thrilling tales of her expeditions, which have included sub-freezing temperatures, blinding storms, wild animal encounters and many other dangers and challenges.
