Avery library hosts Christmas book sale
The Avery County Morrison Public Library is hosting a used book
sale Friday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the lower level
of the library in Newland.
The sale will offer used hardbacks for $1 and used paperbacks for 50 cents. According to book sale organizers, most of the books are almost new, with dust jackets for nearly all the hardbacks, and about half of the paperbacks show little sign of use.
The selection consists mostly of current fiction for hardbacks and about half romance and half current thrillers for paperbacks. In addition, there will be some children’s books, nonfiction and a few videos and books on tape.
According to organizers, “This sale will only involve about 1,500 to 2,000 books, so you need to come early to ensure a good selection.”
Proceeds from the sale will benefit the library, which used funds raised from its summer sale to purchase new books for its Christian fiction section.
“The library budget this year from the state and county has no money for books, as the county and state have both been cutting their budgets in the current economic conditions,” a library representative said. “The only new books that the library can buy come from donations, the book sale and a grant from the Morrison trust.”
The library’s next sale will take place during the week of July 4, 2014.
