Artfull Palette returns with new format, same fun
The Artfull Palette, a longstanding annual benefit for the
Watauga County Arts Council, has been given a second life with a revamped format that is sure to
bring a hint of fall flair to the Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock Saturday, Sept. 21.
The fun starts at 6:30 p.m.
With a reenergized focus and a new partner, the benefit is now a part of “Arts Rock in Blowing Rock,” which is a new event created to celebrate the arts throughout the community.
In the past, The Artfull Palette was held in the dead of winter to bring a welcome reprieve to the rush of the holiday season and the onset of cabin fever.
“The format of past events held more or less until now,” said Cherry Johnson, executive director of the WCAC. “If you have been (to The Artfull Palette) in the past, you definitely want to come now to see what’s different.”
At past benefits, guests were treated to culinary treats prepared by the High Country Chefs Association, which were served by brothers and sisters of the university’s fraternities and sororities.
Art supporters would then mingle and socialize before making their way into a concert hall auditorium for various performances to later partake in coffee and desert to end the evening.
This year, Johnson and the arts council were asked to join the festivities up the road in Blowing Rock for a month-long celebration of the arts.
Since current accommodations prevented an auditorium of theater-style seating, Johnson said organizers had to get a little creative with how and where to stage live performances and refreshments.
“Entertainment will be dispersed in different areas,” Johnson said, adding there will also be a silent auction and cash bar. “There is even an excellent chance of watching a work of art created right before your very eyes. In between performances, you will want to browse the silent auction tables to find treasures and bargains you simply can’t live without.”
The tone will be set when the guests begin to arrive, as they are being encouraged to dress “artfully,” and that is to be interpreted as the wearer sees fit, Johnson said.
“We are looking forward to seeing how many different approaches to dressing ‘artfully’ can be dreamed up by patrons,” she said.
While the event formally draws to a close at 8:30 p.m., guests are invited to stick around for live music and dancing. “We will dance into the night,” Johnson said.
