Applications now accepted for 2013 farm tour
Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture (BRWIA) is accepting farmer
applications for the 2013 High Country Farm Tour.
The tour will feature Watauga, Ashe and Caldwell county farms on Aug. 3 and 4, from 2 to 6 p.m. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, April 10.
“This is a great opportunity for new and well established farms to make life-long customers, share their story and educate about their land and growing practices,” said Courtney Baines, BRWIA director of programs.
While the tour provides opportunities for consumers to see where their food comes from, its primary purpose is to increase farm revenue by providing an outlet for on-farm sales and helping farmers expand their customer base. Farmers who participate in the farm tour also receive a one-year complimentary Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) membership.
Last year, the High Country Farm Tour featured 22 participating farms in Ashe, Watauga and Caldwell counties and attracted more than 500 farm visitors.
This year, BRWIA plans to build upon last year’s success by increasing advertising and programming. Participating farmers will be encouraged to attend the workshop, “Making the Most of the Farm Tour,” designed to boost on-farm sales, secure long-term customers and develop marketing tools.
