Appalachian Homecoming Oct. 8-9

Appalachian State University alumni are invited celebrate Viva Appalachian! at Homecoming Friday, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 9. Events include Friday night's popular traditions, Saturday tailgating and football at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Events will begin Friday, Oct. 8, with the fourth annual Running of the Knob, a 2-mile run to the top of Howard Knob starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Watauga County Library. The Spirit Under the Stars Lip Sync Finals and Pep Rally on Duck Pond Field begin at 6 p.m.

Also on Friday, the Steely Pan Steel Band presents its 25th Anniversary Concert in Farthing Auditorium at 8 p.m. Cost is $10. The All Shook Up Shindig Homecoming dance at Legends begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.

Events Saturday begin before the football game and include the Appalachian Friends Breakfast in McKinney Alumni Center at 9 a.m., Homecoming Parade in downtown Boone at 10:30 a.m. and the Full House at the Rock Tailgate Party at Duck Pond Field at 11 a.m.

The parade will follow a route west on Rivers Street, north on Depot Street, then east on King Street through downtown Boone.

Kickoff for the football game against Elon University is 3 p.m. After the game, homecoming events continue with the Step Show and After Party at Legends at 8 p.m. and hypnotist Jim Wand in Farthing Auditorium at 9 p.m.
