The Appalachian State University Department of Biology’s annual fall plant sale begins Aug. 23 at the greenhouse at 333 Dale St. in Boone.

Visitors may choose from hundreds of healthy tropical and succulent plants, many uncommon varieties, grown by student and community volunteers. A few perennials will also be available. Prices start at $1. Only cash and checks are accepted. Proceeds from the sale support the High Country Gardening outreach program.

Sale hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 23 to 24, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 25. The greenhouse is located off State Farm Road near the student parking lot. While at the greenhouse, visitors can stop by the biology department’s conservatory, which has more than 700 species of plants.

For more information, email greenhouse manager Jerry Meyer at (meyerja@appstate.edu) or call (828) 262-4025.
