After a pause for one year, the annual Festival of
Tables Event will return for its fourth year Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. at West Jefferson Methodist Church in West Jefferson.
A total of 18 tables are available for sponsorship. Table sponsors
will then have initial tickets available for purchase by July 15.
Tickets for the event will
be $50, which will include a four-course dinner catered by Rozie Bolac, participation in silent and
live auctions and the ability to attend the event — which will be restricted to 144 people.
Anyone wishing to sponsor a table should call Nancy Kautz. Table sponsorship typically goes
quickly, Kautz said.
The past three Festival of Tables, in support of the Ashe
County Free Medical Clinic, have been a success thanks to the generosity of everyone and the
commitment of the West Jefferson United Methodist Women to sponsor the event, Kautz said.
Those events raised a total of $36,000 for the Free Medical Clinic, making
it possible for the clinic to provide services for the increasing numbers of uninsured and
under-insured in the County.
In 2012, there were more than 2,500 visits to
the clinic, with support provided for 78 patients with diabetes, and a total of 156 imaging studies
All of these services were provided at no cost to patients
who would have no other access to medical care.
With no expansion of
Medicaid and the continuing double-digit
unemployment rate, that number is expected to increase since most of the patients would fall into
the gap between Medicaid and insurance subsidy.
Business contributors are also
being solicited for items for auction. Acknowledgement is made at the event of all businesses
and individuals contributing to the event. All donations are tax
