Tweetsie Railroad will open its gates for its 57th season on April 12.

The theme park has also announced its entertainment lineup for the forthcoming season, with the return of many family-favorite events and the addition of some new all-stars.

Annual favorites include the July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza and Tweetsie’s Ghost Train Halloween Festival, as well as visitors like Thomas the Tank Engine for the annual Day Out With Thomas, Dora from Nickelodeon’s “Dora the Explorer” and Diego from “Go, Diego, Go!”

Tweetsie Railroad will also welcome SpongeBob and Patrick, stars of Nickelodeon’s hit animated series, “SpongeBob SquarePants,” for the first time this year.

“The entire family is in for a great time aboard Tweetsie Railroad’s historic steam-powered locomotive all season long,” a Tweetsie spokesperson said. “Explore Tweetsie’s own Western town, tap your toes to live entertainment at the Tweetsie Palace, or take a turn on one of the many exciting rides. Journey high above the park via the chair lift to Miner’s Mountain, where you can pan for gold, and meet animals at the Deer Park Zoo.”

The park is also offering early-season special pricing, including the Golden Rail Season Passes at a discounted rate of $75 for adults and $55 for children 3 through 12. After May 5, Golden Rail passes increase to $90 for adults and $65 for children.

A Golden Rail Season Pass includes full-season access to Tweetsie; admission to all special events, including Day Out with Thomas, SpongeBob SquarePants, the Ghost Train Halloween Festival and the park’s Cool Summer Nights evening program (July 6, 13, 20 and 27); free parking for the July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza; and discounts at participating High Country family attractions, including Grandfather Mountain, Mast General Store and Tanger Shoppes on the Parkway.

Tweetsie Railroad will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, starting April 12, including Memorial Day Monday, and seven days a week, from May 31 through Aug. 18.

The park returns to the weekend schedule from Aug. 19 through Nov. 3, including Labor Day Monday. The 2013 season ends Sunday, Nov. 3.

The park’s regular hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., but the park will be open until 9 p.m. on July 4 for the Fireworks Extravaganza and July 6, 13, 20 and 27 for Cool Summer Nights.

Daily admission to Tweetsie Railroad is $37 for adults and $23 for children ages 3 through 12. Children 2 and younger are admitted free.

In addition, the park will open at 8:30 a.m. both Saturdays (June 1 and 8) for the popular Day Out With Thomas event. The Ghost Train Halloween Festival will take place Friday and Saturday nights Sept. 27 through Nov. 2, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., when the price of admission is $28 for adults and children.
