'The Mechanic' too mechanical

Cool-headed, ruggedly suave and unabashedly British, Jason Statham is the B-movie action hero of our time, never deviating from that path and pretty much playing the same role again and again, but in mildly different situations.

'Narnia': Return to Average

C.S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia" is one of the most beloved series of children's books of all time.

The film adaptations, however, just don't seem to be catching on. Though well made and generously budgeted, the series just doesn't have that epic sheen, that sense of wonderment that can engross an audience and draw one into the story.

'Tourist' a dull vacation

There's little to be gained from "The Tourist." What it lacks in interest, it tries to compensate with sheer star power, and miserably at that, as stars Johnny Depp and Jolie share the kind of chemistry typically found near time clocks - they're ready to call it a day.

'Next Three Days' gripping and suspenseful

"The Next Three Days" is a gripping suspense drama, combining themes of morality and rationality with the timeless intrigue of a prison break. Well-acted and effectively shot, its narrative shortcomings are overshadowed by standout performances from Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks.

New 'Potter' an effective sequel

"Deathly Hallows" is one of "Potter's" more bittersweet entries - bitter in the sense that it's somehow devoid of the inherent wonder and, well, magic of its predecessors; but sweet in that its actors have literally grown into their roles, delivering emotional and thoughtful performances fitting for the material.

'Unstoppable' not unwatchable
