Mile High Tavern opens on Beech
A significant addition to Beech Mountain’s nightlife is now available for the après-ski crowd.
The Mile High Tavern recently opened about a half mile from the ski resort. The tavern has three separate interior areas: one for dining, one for billiards and another for dancing.
Meanwhile, the tavern’s exterior is noteworthy because of an outdoor bar surrounding a 20-foot open flame. Owner Jim Accardi has dubbed it the “Fire Bar at Mile High Tavern.”
“It’s a real ambience factor,” Accardi said. “It’s going to be a big hit.”
Accardi’s motivation for opening the new facility was to enhance the nightlife offerings on Beech by providing three distinct areas for patrons inside the 5,000-square-foot tavern.
The billiards area has pool tables, arcade games and a foosball table, all surrounded by tables and flat-screen TVs. The dining area provides seating for up to 40, with a menu of fresh, made-to-order wings, pizzas, chili, burgers, soups and salads.
The pub area features a large gathering space and bar surrounded by multiple TVs, plus a dance floor with state-of-the-art sound system.
“It provides different layers of opportunities in the evenings,” Accardi said. “Hopefully, it gives people a reason to be out later and extends their hours of enjoyment.”
On tap is a selection of two dozen North Carolina craft beers. An additional 100 varieties of bottled beer are also available. The fully-stocked bar also offers mixed drinks, a selection of wines and a variety of specialty vodkas.
The dance floor features an automated music system and is open nightly. There will also be regular appearances by DJs, plus live music on occasion.
“Nightlife adds so much to the experience of a ski resort town — it goes hand in hand,” Accardi said. “I think people will respond to this, because there’s not a lot to do up here after a certain hour. We want to encourage late-night fun in a nice way.”
The tavern’s hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily. Mile High Tavern is located at 1003 Beech Mountain Parkway in Beech Mountain. For more information, call (828) 387-4171.
