Need your morning caffeine fix?

For 14 years, Conrad’s Coffee Company of Boone has been satisfying its growing customer base with a wide selection of international flavors and skilled brewers who take their craft to heart.

After taking notice of the growing retail market, owner Conrad Poe decided to make the move to purely wholesale distribution and close his retail location with the exception of a university café.
Luckily for longtime fans of Conrad’s is the continuation of the brand at King Street Creamery, which recently began offering freshly brewed cups of the hometown delight at its location on King Street in downtown Boone.

The business arrangement came about following a chance encounter at Lowe’s Foods, which now carries Conrad’s Coffee at nine different locations.

Karl Smith, owner of King Street Creamery, has been a longtime fan of the wide selection of smooth and exotic blends of Conrad’s Coffee.

“I was delivering at Lowe’s one day, and (Smith) just came up and started talking about our coffee,” Poe said.

The addition of coffee to the creamery’s menu seemed like a natural fit to the young business that had only been opened for seven months at the time.

“Coffee goes well with ice cream,” Smith said. “The coffee is top quality. He (Poe) goes all over the world in search of good coffee.”

“We carry only the top 1 percent of the world’s best coffee,” Poe said. “Whether that means it’s Colombian or Guatemalan, we carry the top 1 percent of that country’s coffee.”

The creamery currently offers 36 flavors of Blue Bell Ice Cream and 12 different kinds of fudge, satisfying any sweet tooth.

Poe added that Smith purchased top-notch brewing equipment to offer the freshest tasting coffee possible.

“It’s been going really great for them, and we came in to train their staff how to make drinks,” Poe said.

Despite newfound success in the wholesale market, Poe said he still misses the daily interactions he shared with his dedicated fan base.

“We miss a lot of our customers,” Poe said. “Some of our first-day customers were still coming in the day we closed.”

Through it all, Poe said he feels comfortable and confident that he’s sending former customers to a place he knows they will find a quality cup of joe.

King Street Creamery is located at 595 W. King St. in downtown Boone. For more information, call (828) 262-4622. For more on Conrad’s Coffee, visit http://www.conradscoffee.com.
