Giving in Tune
It’s summertime, but the Hunger and Health Coalition is decking the halls for “Christmas in the Mountains Vol. 6.”
The album, which features various local artists performing seasonal music, serves as an annual fundraiser for the Boone-based nonprofit organization and will be released in October at more than 80 locations throughout the High Country.
“Children all over the country like to tell Santa what they want for Christmas,” the Hunger Coalition’s Leslie Shavell said. “Unfortunately, many children in our community want nothing more than to have enough food for their families to eat – not just a Christmas day feast, but food on a daily basis that so many of them are missing.”
Last year’s album, priced at $10, raised more than $28,000 for the cause after expenses, and the coalition’s asking supporters to help offset this year’s production costs by donating $100 or more before Aug. 10.
Doing so will earn donors’ names a spot on the album cover, as well as a complimentary CD.
“All the local artists and the production group donate their time and talents to produce this exceptional CD,” Shavell said, adding that some of the tracks are “Christmas in the Mountains” exclusives, made specifically for the album.
Donations can be mailed, before Aug. 10, to Hunger and Health Coalition, P.O. Box 1837, Boone, N.C. 28607. Checks should be made payable to Hunger and Health Coalition, with “Christmas CD” written in the memo space.
