ArtWalk’s featured artist this week is stained glass artist Debi Dwyer.
Dwyer, a native of New Hampshire, left the chilly north for the sunny shores of Florida, where the natural surroundings of the area influenced her desire to become a stained glass artist.
What started as a hobby while raising her two sons has evolved into a full-time life style.
Now living in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Wyer has become ensconced in her passion and takes part in festivals from Florida to Virginia. She has developed her craft to the level of an acknowledged artist and has captured both purchase and best of show awards.
Some of her favorite themes are fantasy fairies, dragonflies and butterflies, where her choices of glass and jewels make her art stand out. In addition, her love of the ocean is depicted frequently in her original pieces. Also, she creates lamps, using some of the most expensive glass at hand that turn the projects into works of art.
Dwyer’s stained glass can be found on ArtWalk’s main level. With three and a half floors and more than 300 local, regional and national artists, ArtWalk is located at 611 W. King St. (across from Mast General Store) in downtown Boone. Hours are Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
