Sunset Stroll returns May 17
When folks in Blowing Rock go out for a “Sunset Stroll,” you
know that summer is just around the corner.
The first Sunset Stroll for 2013 will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 17. Art galleries, restaurants and other businesses along Sunset Drive will host open houses with live music, food and hors d’oeuvres.
Art and Artifacts in Blowing Rock will present an exhibit of artwork by Judi Russell, called “Exploring Shape, Pattern, Color and Texture.”
“Judi’s love of color, pattern and shape is evident in her new paintings and also incorporates her growing interest in using various mediums and materials,” Art and Artifacts’ Suzi Cook said. “Her goal has always been to entertain the viewer’s eye, and now her viewers will want to touch her paintings.”
One of Russell’s newer paintings is titled, “St. Olivia: Patron Saint of Blue Birds.”
“This painting provides some indication of how she plans to use this new style for her abundance of journal drawings, which are created with her ‘eyes closed’ technique,” Cook said. “The painting combines painted and textured surfaces, painted and stained papers and stamped papers, using purchased and handmade stamps.”
In August, Russell will be conducting a two-day workshop at the Sawtooth Center for Art in Winston-Salem to share her techniques with others.
