Sunset Stroll on Sunset Drive
Slip on your walking shoes and make your way to Sunset Drive in Blowing Rock this Friday evening.
Art exhibitions, a wine tasting, live music and refreshments are all free for the taking.
Sunset Stroll on Sunset Drive begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m.
The Mountain Cottage (in DeWoolfson's previous location) is showing photography by Jill Smith, an Appalachian State University student artist, as well as locally crafted pottery. Visitors are invited to drop in and share a glass of wine under the rose arbor.
Morning Star Gallery invites art lovers to take in a group show of the gallery's painters and photographers amidst the gallery's collection of hand crafted American glass, ceramics and jewelry. A special feature during the stroll is new art from Jill Flinn - bas relief paintings. Flinn's imaginative and colorful art helps support homeless animals across the USA.
Art & Artifacts is exhibiting plein-air paintings by Jean Cauthen and owner Judi Russell's intuitive drawings. Visitors will also enjoy the collection of ceramics by Judy Brater, whose much loved work graces many homes throughout the High Country and beyond.
Glen Scott Gallery (next door to Mellow Mushroom) is a new business for the Sunset Stroll, and owner Cheryl Greene extends a warm invitation to the public to share a glass of wine and enjoy the faux bois (false wood) sculptures by Jill Smith. The gallery is awash with paintings, too, so be sure to make it inside after viewing the patio offerings.
Feather Your Nest Gallery invites strollers to see a collection of paintings by more than 40 artists. Landscapes and animal paintings are the primary theme for this Sunset Stroll.
Next door at Christopher's Wine & Cheese, strollers may participate in a tasting of Illahe wines from Oregon, as well as meet some of the painters from Artists' Alley. Christopher's represents these painters and will have a small but interesting collection of their canvases on hand.
Other businesses participating in the Sunset Stroll are Jake's at the Rock (cookies and lemonade on the porch in the shade) and Blowing Rock Estate Jewelry & Antiques.
The live music and outdoor bar under the trees is a popular mainstay at The Best Cellar at the Inn at Ragged Gardens, though folks should remember to bring folding lawn chairs or a blanket to relax on.
Other restaurants serving drinks and dinner al fresco are Crippen's Country Inn, Mellow Mushroom and the Blowing Rock Grille.
The stroll begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs through 8 p.m. Participating businesses will be flying balloons to help strollers find their way.
