Sunset Stroll on Sunset Drive Friday

Art & Artifacts will feature the artwork of Irmaly Brackin

The public is invited to celebrate autumn in the galleries, restaurants and stores on Sunset Drive in Blowing Rock with an evening of art, music, shopping and light refreshments. The final Sunset Stroll on Sunset Drive for the 2011 season runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in this Friday, Sept. 30.

A wine tasting at Christopher’s Wine & Cheese will get the evening moving in the right direction. Christopher’s will also be showing art by Edi Gilreath and Janet Montgomery. Neighboring art gallery Feather Your Nest will feature the paintings of more than 40 artists.

Visit Glen-Scott Gallery across the street and next door to Mellow Mushroom Pizza for more art, such as sculptural tables in the faux bois style, as well as paintings and drawings.

Art & Artifacts will present “Fascinating Rhythms – Music in Resin and Mud,” a show of Davie County potters Lauren Rieth and Jessica Allen, who have collaborated for many years. Rieth and Allen will attend the reception, during which refreshments will be served, and the public is welcome to meet them as they show their pottery. Arts & Artifacts will also showcase colorful imagery from Irmaly Brackin.

Morning Star Gallery will present new art by Brad Stroman and Trena McNabb in the show, “Little Things Mean a Lot.” Stroman’s trompe l’oeil paintings feature autumn beauty in a convincing way, while McNabb’s paintings invite the viewer to experience our world as a place where all things are closely related.

The following businesses will also be participating in Sunset Stroll on Sunset Drive: Jake’s at the Rock, Blowing Rock Estate Jewelry & Antiques and The Mountain Cottage.

Live music, weather permitting, will fill the air at the Inn at Ragged Gardens, where strollers will also find an outdoor bar beneath the big trees.

Al fresco drinks and dining will be available at four restaurants on Sunset Drive: The Best Cellar at the Inn at Ragged Gardens, Blowing Rock Grille, Crippen’s Country Inn and Mellow Mushroom Pizza. If there’s a shower, head for the big umbrellas.

Strollers can top off the evening with a visit to Oh! La’La’! Cupcakes, the new and imaginative “cupcakery” next door to Christopher’s Wine & Cheese and Feather Your Nest.

Sunset Stroll on Sunset Drive is a free event, open to the public, and sponsored by the businesses on Sunset Drive. Look for the balloons to find the participating businesses.
