The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum’s latest exhibit should strike a pleasant chord with folks in the High Country.

“Strings ’n’ Things,” on exhibit in BRAHM’s Historic Objects Gallery, is an entertaining look at the old-time music traditions of Central and Southern Appalachian Mountains.

It will be on exhibit from June 8 through Sept. 9.

A reception for the new exhibit will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8. The event will feature musicians, storytellers, craft demonstrations and refreshments.

All the activities are free and open to the public.

Rick Ward will present old-time stories, songs and music from Beech Mountain from noon to 12:45 p.m. Trevor McKenzie and Friends will perform old-time music on the museum’s porch from 1 to 2 p.m.

A craft station with activities for children will be outside on the upstairs of the parking garage from 1 to 2 p.m.

From 2:15 to 3 p.m., musician and instrument-maker Charlie Glenn will play music, demonstrate his instruments and talk about making them. Kid-friendly refreshments will be provided.

BRAHM is located at 159 Chestnut St. in downtown Blowing Rock. For more information, visit or call (828) 295-9099.
