Sam Peeples at ArtWalk
Sam Peeples, a multimedia artist originally from Greensboro, is
this week’s featured artist at ArtWalk. Peeples has been a Boone resident for seven years and has
been painting, drawing and exploring various creative media since childhood.
Peeples’ favored means of artistic expression includes woodblock printmaking, sculpture and collage. He completed a studio art degree at Appalachian State University.
Peeples enjoys printmaking as it includes aspects of sculpture, another favored medium, via the creation of detailed reliefs and woodblocks. The technical aspect of printmaking, including its multi-stage process, also intrigues the artist, as does printmaking as “the original art of the masses.”
Its capacity to be reproduced infinitely is a theme Peeples often contemplates and uses in his various series of prints. Completed prints also become inspiration and material for his collage pieces. His selection of work at ArtWalk includes woodblock prints and intaglio pieces.
The artwork of Sam Peeples can be found on ArtWalk’s basement level. With three and a half floors and more than 300 local, regional and national artists, ArtWalk is located at 611 W. King St. (across from Mast General Store) in downtown Boone. Hours are Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
