'Picture Yourself Here'
The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum's upcoming "Picture Yourself Here!" Benefit Art Exhibition and Benefit Auction, which will be held at Blowing Rock Frameworks and Gallery June 13 to 25, will offer an opportunity for seasoned art collectors and beginners to expand their collections.
Organizers are currently selecting approximately 40 exceptional pieces for the auction, which will be on display at the gallery, beginning Monday, June 13, and can be seen during the gallery's regular hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday).
The auction, which will be kicked off with a welcome reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres, will be held on Saturday, June 25. Guests will receive an auction program that will include a photograph and details about each piece available for auction, as well as a profile on the item's donor. There will also be an eclectic silent auction with affordable starting bids. Absentee bids will also be accepted at the gallery.
"We chose to exhibit the pieces for two weeks before the auction in order to give people plenty of time to pick their favorites," said Tim Miller, BRAHM board of trustees member and gallery owner.
Miller is co-chairing the event with local art collector and museum supporter Clyde Williams.
"BRAHM has gained experience organizing successful exhibitions and auctions, and this event promises to be another great success," Miller said.
Proceeds from the auction, along with the annual Blowing Rock Art and Antiques Show (coming up July 28-31) and museum membership dues, fund BRAHM's operating expenses.
"Events like this auction will allow us to fulfill our mission of providing exceptional exhibits, programs and educational opportunities to the region," executive director Joann Mitchell said. "In order to be successful, it is critical that we raise the funds needed to operate, especially as we prepare to open to the public on Oct.1. We hope our friends and neighbors from throughout the region will continue to help us live up to our goal to become a premier cultural and community center."
The exhibition and auction will be free and open to the public. All proceeds from the auction will benefit BRAHM. Because the museum is a registered 501(c)3 organization, all donations and purchases made at the auction to be tax deductible.
