A new art exhibit, “Phases of Grandfather,” is open to the public in the Dickson Gallery at Cannon Hospital in Linville through May and June.

“Phases of Grandfather is an honoring of the folks, gardens, rivers and reflections of my youth growing up at the foot of Grandfather Mountain,” artist Treva McLean said. “I grew up under the tutelage of my grandmother, Lena. The Cherokee dream horse, the sunflowers and the jack-in-the-pulpit are all images of that precious time spent beside the Watauga River, as well as in it.”

McLean encodes mysterious maps and meanings into each painting, drawing and print. She was taught by Chief Two Trees and her own Lakota ancestors and creates in order to benefit humanity by purposeful art, world peace flags and land conservancy.
