The Color of Snow by Debbie Arnold

February is the month for affairs of the heart, with Valentine's Day symbolizing the love and affection for those near and dear.

Carlton Gallery's exquisite hand-crafted jewelry selections by designers Mia Katrin, Laura Fly, Tana Acton, Don Haywood, Zoe Nelson and Channing Ayers express one's sentiments in a special and heart- warming way.

Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pendants and rings are among the collections in 14- and 18-22K gold and silver with high-quality precious, semi-precious stones and gemstones.

Toni Carlton plans an "Open Your Heart with Art" Expressive Arts Workshop on March 10, 11 and 12 and April 14, 15 and 16. Using the modalities of art, music, movement and journaling, one can explore and express passion, joy, love and connection to spirit in these inspiring mixed media collage workshops. Carlton is a local artist who for many years has created art as a means to deepen the connection to the divine and express the oneness of all.

Local artist Debbie Arnold plans a "Follow Your Intuition" Weekend Workshop on April 24 and 25, using the versatile medium of acrylic, layering transparent colors and textures with different techniques - sponges, pallet knives, spattering and imprinting, along with pouring layers of thinned colors onto the canvas. Arnold's intuitive painting workshop allows for self-discovery through color and form. This exciting weekend workshop opens the heart to develop a connection with the source of all that is.

These personal and unique workshops by Carlton and Arnold open the heart to the creative process. No prior art experience is necessary for either workshop.

Carlton Gallery continues its 27th Winter Exhibition through March 15 with an emphasis on "Small Works" in oils on canvas, mixed media and watercolor. In addition to an expansive collection of hand-crafted jewelry, the gallery's art from local, regional and national artists includes paintings, sculpture, glass, wood, pottery and woven works. The gallery is located 10 miles south of Boone and 7 miles north of Linville in the Grandfather Community. Winter hours are Wednesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by appointment.
