New Leaf Studio at ArtWalk
This week, ArtWalk is featuring the work of Marie Galloway,
founder of New Leaf Studio.
Galloway has created an eclectic array of tabletop, wall and floor accessories made out of natural elements from nature and combined with sustainable, reclaimed and repurposed materials.
Her true passion is preserved, finished leaves mounted on bases, wall brackets and in frames. These leaf “sculptures” are permanently preserved through a labor intensive process that may take up to 18 steps for a single leaf and will last indefinitely. Galloway’s concentration is on leaves that are hand-selected from native North Carolina plants and trees found near to her home base of Lexington.
Marie received her Bachelor of Science degree in furniture design from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Mich., and has enjoyed a 15-year career as a home-lighting and accessory designer.
Her work has appeared in Architectural Digest, Charleston Home, Southern Accents, Traditional Home and Veranda magazines. Her lamp designs have been seen in the film, “The Proposal,” and on television’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and the “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” series, “Made in America.”
