Meixell featured artist at Hands Gallery
Joan Meixell’s screen prints are a familiar sight at Hands Gallery in downtown Boone.
As featured artist at Hands Gallery, silk screen printer
(serigrapher) Joan Meixell has filled the gallery window with friends, past and present.
She is the featured artist at Hands from Sept. 23 to Oct. 6 and will be at the Oct. 7
Downtown Boone Art Crawl.
While she loves making prints of area mountain scenes, her
favorite subjects have been animal friends she has known. Meixell never tires of studying her dogs
and cats (even when they get annoyed) to determine how to best catch their colors and
expressions.
Meixell has been silk screening for more than 40 years, and many of her ideas
for prints come while participating in other activities, such as running, biking and playing the
viola da gamba. Several of these prints have been award winners and have gained admittance into
multiple juried exhibitions.
Hands Gallery is located at 543 W. King St. For more
