Lionfish Images swims into ArtWalk
ArtWalk’s featured artist this week is photographer Mark
Houghton of Lionfish Images. Houghton is a recent addition to the store and gallery, and his
photographs have already proven popular with customers.
Houghton said he’s always been captivated with photography’s ability to capture a moment and tell a story with just a single image. His first camera was given to him as a high school graduation gift.
“I can remember flipping through my photos and thinking, ‘These are terrible!’ and they didn’t do a good job of telling the story,” he admitted.
Fortunately, Houghton took the time to learn all of the technical aspects — speed, aperture, lighting, composition — that are necessary for getting the moment just right and telling the story that he wanted to tell.
Houghton’s company, Lionfish Images, is the culmination of being able to share these preserved moments. Lionfish Images is also committed to donating 10 percent of its profits to organizations that provide life-giving resources to those in need around the world.
In addition to photography, Houghton works fulltime as an international coordination specialist for Operation Christmas Child with Samaritan’s Purse, where he helps support overseas offices that collect shoeboxes full of gifts for children in need around the world.
