Leanne Salt's art featured at ArtWalk
This week, ArtWalk is featuring the fiber works of Leanne Salt, ArtWalk's manager of five years.
An alumnus of Appalachian State University, Salt received her BFA in fibers in 2005. Originally from Huntersville, she relocated to Boone in order to attend the university and has lived here ever since.
At ArtWalk, she offers handspun and hand-dyed wool yarns ideal for knitting or crocheting. She also has a selection of hand-dyed silk scarves and wrapped yarn vessels. However, her most striking pieces are miniature quilted scenes. The scenes include subjects, such as zoo and farm animals, pets, a wedding couple and a view of downtown Boone. Most of the images average 6 inches square, but there are some larger pieces available, as well.
Salt uses a vibrant selection of 100-percent silk fabrics for these miniature scenes. Several pieces are so intricate that tweezers were used for some of the smaller bits of fabric. The frayed edges of each little piece of fabric and the rough edges of the whole image add energy and movement to compliment the subject matter.
Some pieces are suited for display in nurseries and children's rooms, while others would be appropriate for the rest of the home.
Leanne Salt's fiber works are located in ArtWalk's second floor mezzanine. With three and a half floors and more than 300 local, regional and national artists, ArtWalk is located at 611 W. King St. (across from Mast General Store) Boone, N.C. 28607.
