Jo Lackey comes to ArtWalk
Jo Lackey likes to see a person smile when looking at her
She paints with watercolors and acrylics, much of which is done on tin and wood. Her subjects might be people, angels, landscapes, home portraits, fish and mermaids, either whimsical or abstract.
Lately, she has been working on reverse glass paintings on glass pendants. For wedding gifts, Lackey said she enhances invitations with the bride’s color scheme, and she also accepts commissions “to paint that special thought you have.”
Lackey is a wife, mother of two adult sons and a grandmother. She lives at Berkeley Lake, Ga., where she has her studio, but spends much of her time at her place in Seagrove Beach, Fla.
Her art can be seen in private and commercial collections in the U.S. and international collections, including some in Australia, New Zealand, Russia, England, Japan, France, Ireland and Canada.
She also enjoys donating her paintings to charities for their fundraiser auctions. Painting with the Foundation for Hospital Art in the U.S. and in Australia and New Zealand has been a highlight in her career, Lackey said.
She has had one-person art exhibits at the Success Center at Georgia Tech, the Gwinnett Historical Court House, City of Berkeley Lake City Hall and the Gertrude Smith House, which is on the National Register of Historic Places in Mt. Airy, Lackey’s hometown.
Locally, her work can be found on display and for sale on the bottom floor of ArtWalk, located at 611 W. King St., in downtown Boone.
