Holiday Stroll on Sunset Drive Friday
The public is invited to an illuminated Holiday Stroll on Sunset Drive in Blowing Rock on Friday, Nov. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The galleries, restaurants and merchants on Sunset Drive, the historic entrance to Blowing Rock, welcome all to an evening of food, drinks, and holiday cheer. Christmas lights and luminaries will guide the way along this street-long open house, featuring a wine tasting, art exhibitions, hot cider, and large and small treasures in the participating businesses.
Blowing Rock, Grille, The Best Cellar, Mellow Mushroom Pizza, and Crippen's Restaurant will be open at 5 p.m., offering drinks, little dishes and dinners throughout the evening.
"Larry Imeson (of Bert's Bar) plans special holiday drinks, so start there and wander across the street to DeWoolfson," an event spokesperson said. "There you will find gifts designed for the comfort lovers in your life.
"Up the street, Morning Star Gallery is a must stop for a holiday toast while you consider the hand blown ornaments amidst a carefully chosen collection of regional fine art and crafts."
Wes Waugh's giclees and Cher Cosper's Santa Claus prints can be ordered for holiday shipping, while other gift ideas include Rod Shaw's terracotta sculpture and inspired paintings by Trena McNabb and Brad Stroman. Morning Star will also serve festive food and drinks.
"Both Crippen's (Country Inn) and The Best Cellar will fortify you as you make your way up Sunset Drive to Art and Artifacts and Trillium Exquisite Baubles," the spokesperson said. "Holiday sale prices go into effect at Trillium that night, so the designer bags will be especially enticing, and Natalie will be sharing wine with visitors."
Judi Russell and Lynn Hill of Art and Artifacts present an art show (and hospitality), featuring Russell's colorful paintings and work by 27 other regional artists, "so sip a little wine and enjoy the view," the spokesperson said.
"Pick up a slice at Mellow Mushroom Pizza, before you dash across the street to marvel at the beautiful decorations at Jake's on the Rock. Hot cider awaits you in this store full of Life is Good products - shirts, pajamas, mugs, you name it, it's all there, so go with your list in your hand."
From Jake's, it's a short walk to Gregory Alan's, were strollers can enjoy food and hospitality, as well as the candles and home decor possibilities. Gregory Alan's is next door to Christopher's Wine and Cheese, where a wine tasting will highlight the nonprofit Wine to Water program.
"You can help bring clean water to needy people across the globe by participating in
Christopher's wine tasting on the Holiday Stroll," the spokesperson said. "Sunset Drive is ready to sparkle with Christmas lights and luminaries. Come brighten your holiday, feast your eyes, and fill your hearts with holiday cheer."
