‘High Country Landscapes’
High Country landscapes come indoors this July at Blowing Rock
Frameworks and Gallery.
From July 7 to 19, the gallery will showcase the work of artist Lita Gatlin in an exhibit, titled “High Country Landscapes.” An artist reception wll be held Saturday, July 12, from 5 to 8 p.m., during which visitors can meet the artist and observe her work.
“Over the past year, Lita, an avid hiker and distance runner, has taken hundreds of photographs of her journeys in Avery and Watauga (counties) and along the Virginia Creeper Trail,” Blowing Rock Frameworks and Gallery owner Tim Miller said. “Taking these photos back to her studio to paint the most identifiable landmarks in these areas has created a most colorful body of work for this July show.”
Subjects include structures, like area barns; fauna, such as cows and turkeys; and some of the natural features that make the High Country so scenic, including the New River, Elk River and Blue Ridge Parkway vistas.
Miller said the exhibit showcases 25 works in various sizes, from 8x10 to 40x60, demonstrating “one of the widest ranges of paintings she has ever created for Western North Carolina.”
“With color, shape and light surrounding the subjects in each painting the gallery truly represents our High Country,” Miller said.
Gatlin has exhibited at Blowing Rock Frameworks and Gallery for the past seven years.
“We are amazed each time she brings in a new body of work or a single painting,” Miller said.
