Handcrafted crosses at ArtWalk
Artist Helga Sappington is bringing her handcrafted crosses to ArtWalk.
Each piece is handcrafted by Sappington, meaning no two are alike, and each has its own unique appearance.
Each cross also includes a biblical scripture, which is attached to show its relevance to the theme.
Sappington was born and raised in what used to be West Germany, in an area surrounded by ancient ruins and castles.
According to Sappington, as a child, she had great fun looking for ancient artifacts in the local ruins. After immigrating to America in 1992, she continued her passion by hunting Native American artifacts.
Later, Sappington was able to combine her love for artifacts with her artistic ability to create mosaic crosses that have a connection with antiquity.
Sappington said she is grateful for the opportunity to minister creatively through the arts, and that her works of art show this to be true.
She said God’s work is her inspiration, with each crafted cross both original and imperfect, just like her.
Sappington’s work is now on display and for sale at ArtWalk, located at 611 W. King St. in downtown Boone.
