Gretchen Krueger at ArtWalk
This week, ArtWalk features the work of Apex artist Gretchen Krueger.
Krueger creates original art pieces and prints on small, square woodblocks. Her art features bright, bold designs, using paper overlaid on print and paint. She holds a degree from Appalachian State University and worked as a school counselor for many years before becoming a stay-at-home mom and part-time artist.
Krueger kicked off her art career by showing her work at North Carolina festivals. In addition to her art, she sells handcrafted jewelry and hair accessories using bright metal and plastic components.
Her artwork features cheerful owls, colorful flowers and whimsical trees. She sometimes accents the pieces with 3-D additions like moss and fake flowers for a little texture. The sturdy woodblock construction of her pieces includes a stand for sitting them on a shelf, or they can be hung on a wall.
The artwork of Gretchen Krueger can be found on ArtWalk’s main level. With three and a half floors and more than 300 local, regional and national artists, ArtWalk is located at 611 W. King St. (across from Mast General Store) in downtown Boone. Hours are Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
