Burkhart Brower Designs at ArtWalk
ArtWalk is featuring the work of Burkhart Brower Designs.
Burkhart Brower Designs is a partnership between N.C. natives Marie Burkhart and Vicki Brower of Asheboro.
The artists have combined their skills in fine art, advertising and accessory design to respond to their shared concern for the environment and passion for aesthetic living.
Their resulting products are both rustic and refined. Handmade in their North Carolina studio, their line of preserved leaves, reeds, moss and bark come as elements under glass in shadowbox frames or mounted on fabric covered canvases, tabletop finials, moss balls framed patches of moss, table top reed gardens, and other wall art, bringing the colors and textures of nature indoors.
With the moss balls ranging from 6 to 30 inches, they can serve as a centerpiece or as free-standing floor art.
The preserved leaves come in several finishes including rust, bronze and blue, as well as silver, gold and copper leaf. Leaves are carefully selected for their size and shape. Burkhart and Brower's preference is for southern species, but they also offer more exotic and unusual forms like palms, split leaf philodendron and kudzu.
Burkhart Bower Designs gathers its natural materials locally, using local suppliers and using low VOC water based finishes whenever possible.
Burkhart Brower Designs is located on ArtWalk's lower level. With three and a half floors and more than 300 local, regional and national artists, ArtWalk is located at 611 W. King St. (across from Mast General Store) in downtown Boone. Hours are Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
