Blowing Rock Frameworks and Gallery owner and curator Tim Miller decided this year to give his stable of artists a couple of assignments.

“I asked all of the gallery’s artists to paint three new paintings,” Miller said. “I wanted one painting of Grandfather Mountain, one painting of some place in Blowing Rock and another painting of their choosing.”

The resulting 45 paintings are now on display at Blowing Rock Frameworks and Gallery in a new exhibit, titled “Blowing Rock and Beyond.” The exhibit will be on display from now through July 31.

An artists’ reception for “Blowing Rock and Beyond” will be held at the gallery from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 6. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

“Blowing Rock and Beyond” features new artwork by George Snyder, Jason Drake, Wes Waugh, Lita Gatlin, Jerry Kirk, Dave Syfert, Egidio Antonaccio, Fred Sprock, Peggy Carlson, Richard Fennell, Paul deMarrais, Pat Pilkington, Rainey Rodgers and Mary Page Whitley.

“All of the artists took a different perspective with regards to Grandfather Mountain,” Miller said. “Egidio Antonaccio’s is the view from Foscoe that is probably most familiar to people, but Dave Syfert’s is a view from the Linn Cove Viaduct.”

Lita Gatlin’s view of Grandfather Mountain shows the stately ridge in the background, while the foreground is alive with autumn color.

“I gave all of the artists completely free reign, as long as they depicted some view of Grandfather,” Miller said.

The resulting show is one of the most captivating collections of local art compiled in recent memory, he said.

Blowing Rock Frameworks and Gallery is located at 7539 Valley Blvd. in the Food Lion Shopping Center in Blowing Rock.
