Bay Pottery candle pots at ArtWalk
The McMichael Family has been working together designing and
making utilitarian porcelain pieces in their studio positioned on a ridge above the Shenandoah
Valley in Virginia for more than 30 years.
Their clay is non-absorbent and stain-proof. Their glazes are extremely durable, colorfast, lead safe, thermal shock resistant and are formulated in their own studio. Each of their designs is a copyrighted work of porcelain art.
ArtWalk currently has on display a selection of Bay Pottery's candle pots.
These pots are cut-out designs a couple of inches deep that hold one or more large votive candles. The candle pots lay flat while the candle is burning, but many can be displayed by standing them on end to serve as a small sculpture on a bookcase or end table.
The candle pots come in a variety of themes, including wildlife, inspirational, holiday, Southwestern and seaside motifs. A wide range of glazes is also offered, and each is delicate enough to fit into any dcor, including forest green with sienna highlights, rustic white, blue-violet, and tan with violet undertones.
Bay Pottery Candle Pots are located on ArtWalk's main level. With three and a half floors and more than 300 local, regional and national artists, ArtWalk is located at 611 W. King St. (across from Mast General Store) in downtown Boone. Hours are Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
