ArtWalk welcomes Jim Beghtol
A recent addition to ArtWalk’s gallery of artists, Jim Beghtol
offers both handcrafted rustic furniture and copper and steel wire-sculpted trees from his company,
Beghtol resides in Valle Crucis amidst the mountains and woodlands, which he said gives him his appreciation for its divine beauty and the insight and inspiration for his art. Beghtol added that his creations are a celebration of Mother Nature’s abundant wonders.
His wire-sculpted trees are individually handcrafted, using only simple hand tools. Beghtol uses galvanized steel wire, stainless steel wire, aluminum wire, bark covered wire and bare copper wire, as well as “artistic” wire that is enamel- and clear-coated for lasting beauty.
He also utilizes “green” components, such as recycled wire, reclaimed lumber and repurposed materials when available. Beghtol’s wide ranges of styles include upright, willow, windswept, Japanese maple and bonsai. Some of his larger works contain more than 1,000 feet of wire.
Beghtol matches his trees to original and uncommon base materials, comprised of stone, minerals, fossils, petrified wood, barn wood, rough sawn wood or finished hard woods.
Beghtol’s rustic furniture is constructed from locally sourced hardwoods, including maple, black locust, black walnut, wild cherry, hickory and reclaimed lumber, and he said he prefers using fallen timbers that are still sound.
His designs feature chairs, tables and stools, and styles range from primitive to eclectic and also encompass “high-end” hand-peeled installments that feature mortise and tenon joinery. Some of his chairs include upholstered seats or unconventional materials, such as sea grass or particle board.
Beghtol said his collections would not be possible without the support and encouragement of his wife, Peggy.
Beghtol’s sculpted trees are located on ArtWalk’s main level, to the right of the entrance. ArtWalk is located at 611 W. King Street in downtown Boone. For more information, call (828) 264-9998, email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or visit http://www.artwalkboonecom.
