Art Cellar hosts Cake Invitational
Cake is the theme at The Art Cellar Gallery’s Cake Invitational Exhibit, celebrating the gallery’s 20th year in business.
The summer of 2012 has been a season of celebration for The Art
Cellar Gallery.
The gallery, which has been celebrating its 20th anniversary, will keep the
party going in October with its “Cake Invitational Exhibit, with an open house reception Saturday,
Oct. 6, from 3 to 5 p.m.
In preparation, gallery owner Pam McKay invited all the
gallery artists to create a work of art that is either a cake or inspired by cake. There will be a
mix of work in different mediums and styles, and the work will be for sale, so collectors can have a
cake to celebrate their own special occasions.
Over the last 20 years, McKay’s Art Cellar
Gallery has grown out of a passion for art and the artists of the region. Having first started in
the cellar of her current building, McKay’s highly regarded gallery now covers three floors of
exhbition space and features acclaimed artists from across the Southeast.
She was joined in the
business by her husband, Michael McKay, who handles the business accounts and the picture framing
operations.
McKay said she has always enjoyed the opportunity to help her collectors
find the artists and art works that come together as a collection that they can enjoy for a
lifetime.
“I am passionate about our artists and what they create and have always loved
helping our collectors find the artwork that speaks to them, that they become passionate about as
they live with the art and follow the artists’ careers,” McKay said.
Since the gallery
opened, the artwork shown has always evolved, but still remained local. The artists currently
represented also include a select group of artists from across the Southeast, complemented by a
collection of work by North Carolina potters.
“The Cake Invitational” will run from Oct. 3
to 27, with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 6. The public is welcome to attend.
The final
event (and the final 20th Anniversary Party) of the season will take place Oct. 20 and feature the
work of painter David Birmingham from 4 to 6 p.m.
