‘Babel’ by Zoey Brookshire

The Art Cellar Gallery is celebrating its 20th anniversary season all summer long, including the monthly Art Bash, and everyone’s invited.

This month’s Art Bash is on Wednesday, June 20, from 4 to 6 p.m.

“Come by and join us and, while celebrating the gallery, meet artist Zoey Brookshire as we celebrate her artwork, including a new body of dramatic paintings, titled ‘Forma,’” gallery director Liz Brown said.

Brookshire and her artwork were recently featured in the regional Artsee magazine, and she has been part of the Art Cellar group of artists since its early years.

“Come by for this special opportunity to get some insight into Brookshire’s newest works,” Brown said.

Zoey Brookshire has received recognition for her confident provocative style over her lifetime as an artist. She is well known to many for her inks on paper, including her ongoing explorations of the “Little Black Dress” series.

Her large-scale oils on canvas explore many realms, including images that capture the essence of a landscape in a few strokes of the brush.

“Brookshire’s new ‘Forma’ series brings radiate color in geometric abstractions, willed with joyful exuberance and sophisticated focus,” Brown said.

For the Art Bash event, the gallery will also show a new group of her small ink figure drawings and new large inks, including several “Little Black Dresses.”

From the front gardens to all three floors of the gallery space, there is new work from all the gallery artists, along with a few new additions.

Currently being featured on the main floor is an exhibit of paintings by Robert Eoff and the pottery of Ronan Kyle Peterson, which runs through June 23. The next exhibits begin June 28, showing the newest work of artist Bryan Keith Smith, working in large oils on canvas, titled “Grand Scape Series.”

Also exhibited at the same time is the work of Gregory Smith, a collection trompe le oil paintings titled “A Land Without Bees.”

Along with opening receptions for each of the summers exhibits, the gallery will host a 20th anniversary Art Bash on the 20th of each month.

The Art Cellar is located at 920 Shawneehaw Ave. in Banner Elk. The gallery is open regularly Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (828) 898-5175 or visit
