Alta Vista hosts Christmas Open House
'Red Birdhouse' by Tonya Bottomley
Alta Vista Gallery in Valle Crucis is hosting its annual
Christmas Open House on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“The event is free and open
to the public, and it’s a great way to feel the Christmas spirit and to find unique, handmade
gifts,” gallery owner Maria Santomasso-Hyde said. “Come and enjoy Christmas décor, hot cider,
Christmas cookies, homemade sausage balls and other treats, and wines from Shelton Vineyards.
“Also, you can find unique, handmade gifts here, such as Mangum pottery, hand-turned wooden
bowls by local craftsman Mike Flanigan, handmade jewelry, fused-glass photo frames by Megg Isaac,
art prints, paintings, Craftsman-style art tiles, stained glass and Christmas books and art by Will
Moses, heir to Grandma Moses. Also, we can ship gifts for you.”
Alta Vista Gallery
artists have created prints and paintings that are small enough to give as gifts to fit anyone’s
space, Hyde said, as well as budget.
“One gift that my customers really like,” Hyde said,
“is puzzles by internationally acclaimed folk artist Will Moses, and he also has Christmas cards and
beautiful art-books, such as ‘T’was the Night Before Christmas’ and ‘Silent Night.’
“Another
gift that everyone loves is our art-tiles created in the Craftsman period style. These tiles depict
various subjects, such as animals, butterflies, mountains, birds. Also, you can hang the tiles
indoors or outside, so the gift recipient has options.”
Alta Vista Gallery’s annual Christmas
Open House is part of the Avery Tour de Art, which is held on every fourth Saturday, June through
November. Maps of the tour are available at Alta Vista and at each of the 14 stops on the
tour.
