29th Spring Exhibition opens at Carlton Gallery
All are invited to come and enjoy an afternoon filled with meeting the gallery artists in attendance, along with community spirit, while enjoying art in paintings, glass, sculpture, wood and clay, and fine jewelry by local, regional and national artists the gallery represents.
The gallery is filled with new paintings by artists Andrew Braitman, Helen Farson, Kevin Beck, Gina Strumpf, Holly Glasscock, Kate Worm, Ray Byram, Vae Hamilton, Debbie Arnold, Freeman Beard, Holt McLean, Marion Cloaninger, Sharon Rusch Shaver, Toni Carlton and new gallery artist Jerry Kirk.
Their work is in many styles and textures, with subject matter ranging from landscapes, visionary, mixed media and colorful figurative.
Known for his landscapes reflecting composition and color, Andrew Braitman applies his masterly techniques in rendering large abstract figurative paintings. In Braitman's painting, "Joni Mitchell - Rhapsody," shades of his avant garde early abstractions in oils are evident, as well as in his new series of figurative abstracts.
Carlton Gallery features the paintings of noted local artist Wayne Trapp. His vividly colored abstracts bring an added dimension to the recently expanded gallery, and a reception for Trapp is planned for June 25.
A spirited collection of unique and contemporary jewelry from gifted designers Mia Katrin, Laura Fly, Carol Francis Goode, Channing Ayers, Zoe Nelson, Tana Acton and Don Haywood is crafted from precious and semi-precious gemstones set in 14-22K gold, cultured pearls and intricate silver.
A collection of three-dimensional works in glass, clay, and wood by artists John Littleton, Kate Vogel, Greg Fidler, Robinson Scott, Fred Mead, Bob Wagar, Patti Connor-Greene, Maggie Black, Nancy Lewis, John Turner, David Finck, Allen Davis, Bobby Phillips, Keith Allen, Allan Hollar and Harry Seng makes appealing vignettes along with the varied paintings throughout the gallery.
The 29th Spring Exhibition begins with an opening reception on June 5, from 2-5 p.m., and runs through July 15. The gallery is located 10 miles south of Boone and 7 miles north of Linville on N.C. 105 in the Grandfather Mountain Community.
